I’ve been continuing my playthrough of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, which inspired me to revisit one of my favorite films, Interview with the Vampire.
I don’t remember exactly when I saw Interview for the first time, probably on a VHS tape from Blockbuster, just like I watched it today. I do remember it getting dunked on quite a bit in the horror community due to the presentation of its handsome stars. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a horror movie, but it remains among my favorite vampire fiction.
The performances are extremely heightened, bordering on over the top theatrics, but I still find them captivating. The costumes, sets, makeup, and effects have generally aged well and the movie still has some absolutely stunning visual moments. I’ve never read Anne Rice’s book, but one of these days I’ll pick up the copy that’s been on my shelf for years.
In the meantime, I heard the recent TV adaptation is quite good. Maybe I’ll check that out this week…
