Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines playthrough part 2: Oh, the (lack of) humanity

I was not prepared for VtM: B. I probably should have read a guide or something before jumping in, but instead I’m figuring out the systems and mechanics as I go. Case in point: I was working on a quest where I needed to talk to homeless characters, and my only dialogue options were incredibly Patrick Bateman-esque.

I did a search to see why I only had these choices, and it turns out I had lost most of my humanity. I’d spent the past ten hours or so luring victims into dark alleys and drinking their blood, figuring that was the ultimate way to role-play a vampire. Turns out that just made me a dick.

It’s an unclear yet binary system that really could only exist in a PC game from 2004. I don’t have an issue choosing “evil” dialogue in games, but I need to have a choice. My next steps were clear: I needed to use a guide to figure out how to regain humanity ASAP.

I discovered you can regain humanity through the way you handle certain quests, but I needed it sooner than that. Luckily, there’s an easy way to become nicer in Bloodlines: dancing. Turns out if you dance for 5-10 minutes straight in one of the game’s clubs, you will gain one point of humanity (once per club). Random! I love it.

So I went to each of the two clubs currently available to me and (awkwardly) regained my humanity on the dance floor.

If only things worked this way in real life.
