The list of my top 100 Nintendo games is up, so I wanted to address some of the more significant omissions. These fall under two categories: games I haven’t played enough of to have a strong opinion on (yet) and games that I recognize as good-to-great, but just aren’t my thing. The unspoken third and forth categories are games that I’ve played but didn’t make the list and those that I simply forgot.
Because one list isn’t enough, here’s another:
Significant games I haven’t played, or haven’t played enough of to have a strong opinion (but I still want to):
-Mother 1 & 3
-Pretty much any Pokémon third version or direct sequel
-The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls
-Any Fire Emblem game lacking an official localization
-Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn
-Any Golden Sun
-Pikmin 4
-Super Mario Party Jamboree
-The Zelda Oracle games
-Doshin the Giant
-The GameCube and Wii Pokémon games
-Every Wario Land
-Kirby: Canvas Curse
-Recent WarioWare games
-Animal Crossing: New Horizons
-Xenoblade games after the first one (Switch 2 updates please!)
And here are the games I recognize as good-to-great but I just couldn’t get into:
-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
-The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
-Both DS Zelda games
-Metroid Prime 2
-Anything Picross
-Donkey Kong Bananza
-Pokémon Legends: Arceus
-Many Mario RPGs after the first one
-Luigi’s Mansion 3
-F-Zero X and GX
-Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
-Fire Emblem Fates and Three Houses
-Rhythm Heaven games after the GBA original
-Donkey Kong Country Returns / Tropical Freeze
OK one more category for omissions: bad/uncomfortable racial/cultural stereotypes/depictions:
-Punch-Out!! series (many characters)
-Kirby Super Star (one boss)
Anything not on these lists I either forgot or simply fall outside of my top 100!
Yeah, well, that’s just like… my opinion, man.
