I wrapped up the Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC this morning and while it still isn’t scary, Ada’s remade side story is well-paced and polished.

It’s been a minute since I played the original Separate Ways, but the remake feels more complete and intentional, naturally slotting into the main story. Ada’s moveset isn’t dramatically different than Leon’s, but her zip tool spices up combat and traversal a bit. At the end of the day, you’re left with RE4 remake’s satisfying combat and upgrade systems, which is tough to complain about.

Separate Ways is exactly what it promises and what you’d expect: more RE4, starring Ada. It’s a lot of familiar / remixed locations, but there are some surprises even for players of the original. Unlike the main game (original or remake), Separate Ways never overstays its welcome. It flirts with the exhausting military shooter action on the island, but moves beyond it pretty quickly. You can fly through the DLC in less than 5 hours on the easiest difficulty (which I did for my first playthough), and probably 15-20 hours for NG+ playthroughs to unlock everything (which I plan to do eventually).

The RE4 remake mostly bridged the gap between the action and horror sides of the franchise, providing a unique experience in the middle. Separate Ways is an impressive way to cap off RE4; well-worth the asking price.
Played and captured on my PC (AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D / 4080 Super 16GB / 32 GB RAM).
