I figure if I’m running a blog I may as well get a little personal and blog-y. That’s what these posts will be; every Sunday, whatever’s top of mind.
Earlier this week I got some much needed sinus surgery. I work in a school so I made sure to get it done during spring break so I didn’t miss any work during the crucial state testing period. So that’s how I ended up spending my spring break in constant pain and discomfort.
It hasn’t been all bad though because being stuck inside for a week is the reason I was able to get this blog going and rebrand or whatever my Bluesky account. I’m excited to fully make this shift, it’s been a long time coming.

Speaking of misery, I’m absolutely loving the new Deafheaven record. I’m a weirdo without a strong opinion about which album is their best; from melodic black metal to shoegaze, I legitimately love it all. One of the greatest bands of modern times imo.
Maybe it’s my mood and the hopeless that comes with the majority of U.S. voters electing selfish and cruel goons to run the country, but I’m finding comfort in the sadness and anguish of this record. I mean, how can lyrics like this not hit right now?

Switching gears (…), in the past year my wife and I have become huge Formula One fans, but unfortunately there wasn’t a race this weekend. Still, there was plenty of F1 coverage to read/watch/listen to, what with Red Bull swapping Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda.
There are many opinions on this but the simplified version of my take is that the problem with the Red Bull second seat is not the drivers, but (as with most things) dysfunctional leadership making rash moves in order to appease financial stakeholders.
One quote that stuck out to me (and is somewhat related to the actual content of this blog) is this from Alex Albon, in regards to the Red Bull car:
Alex Albon described it best when talking to the High Performance podcast, comparing the Red Bull car Verstappen wants to a computer game: “If you bump up the sensitivity completely to the max and you move that mouse, it’s just darting across the screen everywhere… It becomes so sharp that it makes you a little bit tense. And as it goes sharper, he goes quicker.”
While that works great for Max, maybe Red Bull leadership should try taking into account the fact that new drivers need to be better prepared for the car? Hoping for the best for Yuki in Japan; I can’t imagine the pressure he’s feeling in this impossible situation right now.
(also: go Williams!)
